Unbelievable charges

Help!!!

Some time ago I opened a brand new account with Nat West, a week or so later we were looking to finance a car and visited a car supermarket. Everythign should have been wrapped up in a few hours but there was an issue with the HPI on the car we were part exchanging. The trader required a £100 deposit onthe Saturday promising that everything would be sorted first thing Monday morning. I wrote a checque for the £100 onthe condition that it would not be banked.

However things took a little longer and the trader banked my cheque. A I say this was on a brand new account witha 0 balance and the cheque was presented before we could make any payment into the account, and promptly returned.

Natest charged for this, then charged for exceeding the overdraft limit etc etc. Even though these charges were disputed I am now in a position where NatWest have a default against me for nearly £500 when there has never been any transactions on this account apart from this one cheque. No money hs ever been paid into or out of the account and the default balance consists purely of bank charges.

I am looking into getting a mortgage and this is registered as a default on my credit file.

Does anyone have andy advise on how I whould request getting these charges cancelled an dget this default removed from my file.

Many thanks

I would get a claim in with the bank, however, until you get paid out then you have no chance on the default notice, since you are already acknowledging issuing a cheque on your account without sufficient funds, not clearing the account and allowing it to spiral.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
