Hope someone can advise on this -
I would like to create a Word Document that is password-protected (or similar) if possible??
At the moment, if I type something & save it, it appears as an icon on the main page of my laptop & anyone can click on it & read it.
Is there a way to make it more confidential??
Thanks in advance.

You can do this. Go into the microsoft word help menu and type 'password protect' and it will give you step by step instructions.0

Thanks Nomad25, not as easy as it sounded!!
I don't seem to have a help menu on my Word document
but under 'Review' there was a section for Protect Document
Pressed this & got heading 'Restrict Permission' - Unrestricted (which was already ticked) or Restricted.
Pressed the Restricted & up pops 'Information Rights Management Service' notice.
Looks like I need to sign up for this free trial service from Microsoft
When I pressed cancel it just said 'cannot use this feature without credentials'
Do I have to 'sign up' or is there another way??
I might just give up :rolleyes:0 -
Bl**dy hell - that sounds complicated. I'm not a techie, I'll see if I can copy off mine for you. You shouldn't have to pay for word help.0

Hi
What version of Word do you have.
First off though, when you save the file go to "Save As" and choose a different location different from the Desktop. c:\ or something.0 -
With the file open click on Tools on the top menu, Click on Options and choose the Security tag.
In the box that opens should be all the necessary to make that file password protected both to Open and to Modify.0 -
Hope this helps, post if you need more info.
About using passwords
In Microsoft Word, passwords have a number of uses. Learn about specific uses for passwords and other ways to protect a document from unauthorized changes.
When you create a password, write it down and keep it in a secure place. If you lose the password, you cannot open or gain access to the password-protected document.
A password can contain any combination of letters, numerals, spaces, and symbols, and it can be up to 15 characters long. Passwords are case-sensitive, so if you vary the capitalization when you assign the password, users must type the same capitalization when they enter the password.
Require a password to open a document
When you create a password, write it down and keep it in a secure place. If you lose the password, you cannot open or gain access to the password-protected document. Learn about using passwords.- Open the document.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- On the Tools menu in the Save As dialog box, click General Options.
- In the Password to open box, type a password, and then click OK.
- In the Reenter password to open box, type the password again, and then click OK.
- Click Save.
In order to remove or change a password, you must know the password. Learn about using passwords.- Open the document.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- On the Tools menu in the Save As dialog box, click General Options.
- In the Password to open box or the Password to modify box, select the placeholder symbols (usually asterisks) that represent the existing password.
- Do one of the following:
To change the password, type the new password, and then click OK.- If you changed the password, reenter the new password, and then click OK.
I should probably have pm'd this to you, but it may be of use to others.0 -
I think I might have cracked it!!
Went back into Word Document & had a good look through - there was an 'encrypt' option so pressed that & it let me create a password. Did this & then gave the document a name & saved it.
When I tried to look at the document again, via recent items, it won't let me look at it without inputting the password!!
I'm a genius!!
I think. 0 -
Thanks everyone, hopefully sorted now.

Feel daft now. 0 -
