Been claiming for over a year on loan insurance

I have been claiming on my loan payment protection insurance for over a year and suddenly now i have had medical assessment done by the DWP and am deemed unfit for work the following has happened:-

1. On thursday i got a phone call saying " nothing to worry about we need to clarify a few points" and i was asked questions about doctor, ex employer, benefits etc and the woman kept repeatedly saying nothing to worry about. Its just a routine thing they do. The convsation lasted about 15 mins lots of questions and she kept saying she was acting on behalf of norwich union but nothing to worry about.

2. today i got a letter asking me to sign consent forms for records from my former employer doctors and dwp but at no time in the conversation on friday did she even mention this would happen i feel kind of duped though i have nothign to hide.

3. I do not understand why they have suddenly done this to me after over 15 months of paying my claim and they have the whole time had proper doctors certiicates an initial form from the doctors which i had to pay for and could not afford plus now they have a letter from the DWP/Jobcentre saying I am unfit to work I have followed all channels done all correctly.

My questions are why have they done this after all this time, and they say if i do not give consent they will stop my claim its not the fact that i dont want to give my consent its the fact that i want to know why i was lied to on the phone and why they have put all this unecessary pressure on me when they know i have mental health condition.

Is there any thing i can do?

In my experience it is perfectly normal & usual for payment protection insurers to re assess a claim every year.

It is also usual for consent to be sort for access to medical records, to enable them to access your claim properly. Also employers can be contacted to verify that claimant was not able to do designated job & that no suitable alternative employment was able to be made available to them.

Surely you must have realised that in receiving the consent form that the company would want to apply for your medical records? Usually, with the letter asking for consent there is a part to tick if you would like to see a copy of any doctors' report before it's sent to the insurance company.

If your claim is genuine, why would you want to do anything to stop the insurance company having access to the information they need? Insurance companies need to ensure that the claims they pay out are genuine & are entitled to seek verification.

If you read the small print of the policy, it will probably contain words to this effect somewhere.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

May be youe GP, Doctors would benefit from being made aware of its existence, and although I wouldn't do it myself (it may cost 15p/copy) maybe they would like their own personal copy, and possibly a Surgery copy.

Its easy to follow, it informs doctors that the information should be relevent (well thats my understanding), it also indicates to IC's they their request for medical information should be relevent........again IMO...........so have fun and good luck.

And ps............. every one else sholdn't print out this info and send by post to EVERY GP at your surgery enclosing a surgery copy either.............you know the

GP gets about £90 a chuck from filling in the IC's paper work, and I think it's a good idea for him/her to fill relevent medical history in, instead of just asking a seceratary to just photocopy the lot and sent it.................dont you?

Cattie is quite correct. Insurance companies will make checks periodically to make sure you are not pulling a fast one. People do get better and as 8 out of 10 consumers are quite happy to defraud insurance companies, they have to have checks in place to make sure you are entitled to the money.

If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear.

Yep I generally agree with you here dunstonh,

However if nothing to hide nothing to fear etc implies IC's play the game then maybe I dont.
