Hi joels
As Premier says, it certainly sounds as though you had a stopped electricity meter for some time between March 08 and February 10.
I would have a look at your bills and see what meter readings we were using during this period. Are they the same? Have we estimated your electricity consistently over this time? Does the amount of electricity charged match your current consumption?
Ask us for copy bills if you no longer have them available.
We do charge for electricity used whilst meters are not working correctly as the energy has still been used. However, the charge must be based on estimates as accurate meter readings will not be available.
We have a specialist team who deal with these cases. They use a particular formula based on average consumption at the property with allowances for seasonal fluctuations.
Have a word with this team if you are unhappy with the estimates used. Ask them to raise a complaint whilst your case is investigated. This will stop any debt follow up until the matter is resolved.
Once a final balance has been established, we will be happy to set up a payment arrangement to spread the amount over a more manageable period.
I'm sorry you have suffered from a faulty meter and hope the above points you in the right direction. Give me a shout if I can help further as will be happy to do so.
