My OHs sister has forgotten that she had the steel anti theft lock on ther back wheel and started to drive off on it. She stopped almost immediately, well the bike stopped her :o and now the steel lock is wrapped around her back wheel.

I need some ideas to advise her on removal.

no jokes about women drivers please. :D

the easiest way is to cut it off with an angle grinder

as hartcjhart has said.. an angle grinder.. or a reciprocating saw... or depending on the quality of the chain, use bolt croppers (currently for sale in ALDI for £5 or so)..

if you can't gain access for those tools, or can't lay your hands on them, then perhaps you can remove the wheel, complete with lock, and take it to an engineering shop..

Advice on how to remove an antitheft device by Asbokid :D

Bolt croppers will do it, none of those things are as secure as they say, in fact it's widely known that one certain lock can be opened with a BIC pen.

    £17 from Screwfix.....

The cops often carry bolt croppers.

I took some photos of a crowd of smelly hippies who had chained themselves to the pumps at a petrol station. It was some sort of phony demo about global warming.

Within minutes, the boys-in-blue had arrived with a very fine set of bolt croppers, and the smellies were unchained for their own safety, only to find themselves promptly chained up for another reason!

I'm assuming it's sorted by now, but just put it on the centre stand and carefully rotate the wheels backwards, and check for any damage to wheel/tyre valve/mudguard/brake disc etc

I'm assuming she only looped the lock round her wheel? This isn't very secure, the bike could be nicked without even cutting the lock.
You need to loop the chain round a solid object aswell
