Bank Balance Error? Please Help

Hi, I went to my banks own atm machine and withdrew mony and asked for a balance I received the cash but the receipt was unable to give me a balance?? Later that day I tried a different atm checked balance first and withdrew the remainder of my balance. The next day I check my account and find I have a negative balance it appears that the bank did not register my first withdrawl even though it was their actual atm machine and have allowed me to withdraw to much money? Now on my statement it says I have made a withdrawl on a day I did not make a withdrawl to counter this and make my balance negative? Are the banks allowed to put down a false withdrawl on my statement? It says I made the withdawl on May 2nd 09 when in fact I made the withdrawl on May 1st 09. Because this was the banks error in the first place for not updating my account are they allowed to do this?? Please help
Thanks
Alan

They are indeed allowed to do this. Your card has its own internal limit which you're allowed to draw up to each day without reference to the bank if the ATM can't contact your bank for some reason. As it is, you've made the withdrawal and presumably had the benefit of the money, so the bank is entitled to debit your account with it.
If you're charged, you could ask for the fees to be refunded, as (very technically speaking) it's their error... sort of. But practically speaking, yes you do owe the money.0 -
I don't think you will get the fees refunded as you need to keep your own record of how much is in your account.0
