Plastering/Plumbing courses in Gloucestershire

I've just bought a house that needs a significant amount of plastering (back to bricks!) and plumbing. I've no practical experience of either but fancy having a go at doing at least some of the work.

I'd benefit hugely from a short course in both plastering and basic plumbing - evenings/weekends over ten weeks or so, but cannot find anything suitable near home (Gloucester). Grateful for any recommendations that you good folks might have.

Thanks in advance

i would tread very carefully here

alot of these places charge extortionate money for very basic skills - the minimum industry recognised plumbing qualification is NVQ2 - which takes upto 2 college years to complete and involves classroom tuition and onsite work and inspection

in my honest opinion you would be better off enrolling on a evening college course - that way you will a proper qualification in the end which you will be able to use for employment (if you ever decide to go down that route). It will also cost less. The only downside is i will take longer than six weeks for sure.

i was in same position 3 years ago - but decided to go for college day release - far better in my opinion becuase there is so much info to take in

    hope this helps

A lot of plumbing in commons sense, but plastering is a skill.

I was on a course and learned to plastering basics. Can do small stuff and ever partially plastered a water damaged ceiling. It looks better than before, but is not the best plaster work in the world. If you want to have a go, do thesmallset room first and finish in the Lounge - you just may have learned enough for it to be passable. I however stongly agree with oneeye1.

Also in the last few years, Plumbing has moved onto plastic pipe, so no soldering or difficult bends, now all push/hand screw fittings and a special pair of snips for cutting the plastic pipe - it could not get much easier.

Fitting of some of the more specialized stuff is more difficult.

    good luck
