Fewer speed camera fines as police lose right to cash
"There was a big fall in the number of speed-camera penalties after police and local authorities lost the right to keep the proceeds.
Ministers admitted in 2005 that allowing police to keep some of the money created a perception among drivers that cameras were being used to raise revenue, not just to save lives.
The drop came in the same year that road deaths fell to their lowest level since records began, undermining claims that an increase in cameras improves road safety."

If speed cameras improved road safety, they would keep catching more and more people year upon year, would they? If they worked, people would stop speeding and they wouldn't catch anyone.0

If you really hate speed camera's and don't want to be caught and fined for speeding.................................................Don't speed!!!

What, like the truck driver who they tried to prosecute for 50+ mph when he was actually in a jam at 2mph? Or the Bristol driver they accused of 98mph when his car was proved incapable of more than 84? Next you'll be saying there's no problem with identity cards if you've nothing to hide!melorablack wrote: »If you really hate speed camera's and don't want to be caught and fined for speeding.................................................Don't speed!!!

And I hate speed cameras nearly as much as I hate seeing apostrophes in plurals.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

Nice idea, but very naive. How many people assume that they were speeding, just because the camera says so?
I've had a ticket when I wasn't, and so has my father. I was supposed to be doing 39 in a 30 limit, and he was supposedly doing 48 in a 30. Fortunately, we both had the courage to allow proceedings to be issued so that we had access to the evidence. The evidence showed that, in my case, a telegraph pole was targetted, and in my father's case, the photos proved he was doing 24-26mph. Only at that stage were the cases dropped. I'm sure that most people would just have paid up because they thought they were in the wrong.0 -
