anyone tried hiring a car to get to the airport

When i used to go on holiday alot in the 90's i used to hire a car from say norwich airport where i lived to gatwick airport drop the car off striaght into the terminal job done .
Do car hire firms still do this if so is it cheap enough i used to work it out when we went away for 2 weeks it would work out cheaper than parking the car but like anything its probably more expensive now.

    Yes Hertz still do this
When I use to work for them there was a min of £10 drop off fee ( could be upto £80 now sometimes I could get lower rate but gatwick and heathrow usually £60 ) check out the web site or through ryanair

    Also try Europcar ( national)

I did it last year to Dover for a cruise, flying back, so using own car was not an option.(got the bus back from LHR)

Car hire £70+ fuel, drop of charges are what put it up.
Still a lot more convenient than the train(cross london)

If you do both ways some car hire companies reduce/eliminate the one way charges.
    eg: http://www2.europcar.co.uk/specialoffers/airport-car-hire.html

Was put onto Kemwel for car hire bookings on anther forum, not tried it yet.

Avis do not charge a one way fee if you book the return at the same time as your outward journey even if it is months later.
