in Credit cards
A friend of mine had a Capital One credit card approximately 3 years ago, she decided to pay the whole balance off with a bank loan. She then after a couple of week received a letter stating that she still owed them £12+ in interest, which she paid immediately.
Now, 3 years on she has received a letter from Lowells informing her that she owes £270+ from her capital one credit card.
As she doesn't have access to the internet, I came on here and typed her up one of the draft letters asking them to send her the proof of debt.
On Monday morning they called her to ask her how she was going to make payment and how much???? She told them that she had sent them a letter and they said that they had replied. She told them that she had not received it, so he said he will call her back next Tuesday.
Conveniently, this morning her letter arrived from Lowells and all they have sent her is a copy of the agreement she signed when she opened the credit card. This doesn't in any way prove that she owes them any more money, so how do I proceed with her next letter???
Any advice greatly appreciated

Politely tell them the debt is disputed and ask them to send it back to Capital One.
Capital One will either confirm how the debt occurred or you will not hear from them again.
A last note - get her to check her credit files.0 -
Cheers for that, I have informed them that she does not acknowledge this debt and to send her a full statement including any charges and interest that has been added. We'll see what they come back with now. Oh, I also added that if they call her home phone again she will immediately terminate the call and then report them for harrassment to the OFT!0
