Although A&L shares have risen on Spanish bid hopes, they were not recommended as a buy (just a hold) in a very recent Sunday Times article that was otherwise very positive about the banking sector on the back of the latest profit figures.
Any particular reason you are set on A&L?
With the sort of savings in your signature you should probably be looking to build up Cash ISAs and then branch out into collective funds - e.g. Unit Trusts, Investment Trusts, OEICs - rather than individual shares that might excite OR disappoint.0 -
On a similar theme I'm looking to SELL some shares in Alliance and Leicester what is the easiest/cheapest way for me to sell 250 shares?0

A good spot to start accumulating a share portfolio cheaply is a Halifax Sharebuilder account. Only 1.50 to buy a share.
You can make regular contributions and buy a differnt stock every month.
A&L is quite a good one to focus on first IMHO as it pays a very decent dividend. Buying shares that pay out divis means you accumulate extra money in your account and can buy more shares more quickly.
Diversification into different sectors ( eg retail, oil, utilities, telecoms etc) as you get each share will reduce risk in your portfolio.Trying to keep it simple...

Are they held in the Sharesafe scheme? If they are, then details on how to sell are through the sharesafe website
