My 08 Clio is ready for its first service. Do I have to have it serviced by Renault to keep warranty valid ? They want £206 for the service which seems a lot to me for a interim service....

Any thoughts

Thanks

Its a little bit pricy depends where you live etc but you dont need it servicing at renault any vat registered garage who use renault parts and stamps the book is fine however any thing not picked up ata the sertvice which enault would and subsequently fails due to not being checked and the warently will be invalid as the garage didn't do the job right also renault ae much more generous to owners if they have problems outside warently if the car has full renault service

shop round other renault dealers imo

    I agree with adde.

You say £206 for a full yearly service from one Renault garage, what about other local-ish Renault garage ?

They do differ in price. The when you have another price, let the haggling begin.

It should be at least half that. You need to find a good independent garage, that is VAT registered, that will service it using genuine parts and as long as the car is serviced in accordance with the manufacturers instructions - ie every 10k or annually (whatever) comes first. You do NOT have to go to the dealership.

Anyone telling you different is ignorant of the law. If the dealership tells you that, then they are breaking the law.

I agree with everything so far however i would reiterate what edde said:

If you chose to go to a indy to save a few quid, Renault will not be supportive if anything goes wrong outside the warranty period. Also make sure its a indy you trust because if they f*ck something up which then causes a problem your warranty will also be invalid.

My advice would be shop around a few dealers the service price is negotiable just like the price of the car. Its better all round to get it done at Renault if someone can come up with a sensible price.
  • for the small saving you would make i would just take it to the main dealer, not worth the agro if you get a problem in a year or so

    +1

Plus come resale / trade in time, not have a full manufacturers service history could affect the value.

It should be at least half that.law.

depends where you live but £100 which good value is unlikly to be that price labour rates arn't cheap and even the parts alone add up

personaly £150 or under is good for a dealer
