I used my card reader to download photos from an XD card to the computer and I now am getting card not initialized message when trying to use it back in the camera. I have never had this before. Hopefully someone will know what to do and how to stop it happening again. thanks

Did you format it in your PC after copying the images?

sometimes when card is put into reader on the left top side of card there is a tiny sliding switch ,which stops any photos being taken...so if moveable bit is down push up or vice versa...you cannot damage anything trying it .....my wife thought she had lost all holiday pics...had never noticed safety feature...all best ,..zee

Try copying all the pics off and formating the card.

I have tried formating and still get the same message. Is initializing the same as formating?
No slidey bit so not that.
I put card back into the reader and then moved old photo (copies) onto card, these showed up on computer but they do not when incamera same message ... this was after I had formated it so no further forward but thanks for comments

Apologies if this is too basic but... probably covers 82.3% of such issues....

It's broken: SW Broken or Hardware broken: If Hardware broken chuck it. If SW broken you may be able to re-use after re-formatting.

Many popular/common bits of software (e.g. anything from Microsoft) screw stuff up from time2time for no apparent reason & with no explanation or a by-your-leave. Occasionally you are told you need to "upgrade to next version" as a suggested fix which just brings a new series of bugs.

Sorry, almost certainly lost yr photies. Start again time! Very irritating: And you were expected to pay to use the software!

    Cheers!

I was using all legal paid for software and I am on automatic upgrade but will check card reader out.

Sorry aycor - think your reply
I was using all legal paid for software
    - might indicate you thought I was having a pop at people using sw illegally. Nope, I meant this happens even though you & me pay for the software & the f***ing supplier (we know who..) thinks that it's OK for stuff to get screwed up!

Cheers & Good luck! I'm almost 94.2% Linux now (and, yes, that does go wrong from time2time but at least it's free, faster & usually more secure..)

Sorry if I've missed it, but what make and model camera do you have? I'm wondering if your camera can format the memory card or not.
