hi all, My father in law needs to get a phone put on mainly for health reasons(contact with doctors etc). trying to figure out what would be best for him but i'm not exactly fast at researching different company's. i have been able to find out he cant get cable as they managed to completely miss his block of flats when they were installing it. so would this then leave him just with BT.
he would also need to bar call's to mobiles(extra i know) but last time he ended up with massive bills though visitors using the phone(Gran kids etc). i looked at bt and seen the bt basics but think that it would end up costing as much as ordinary line due to use.
any ideas
thanks

I'd suggest getting a BT line using their current free installation offer and installing a suitably-programmed Commtel Phone Guard (they pop up on ebay quite often at £5 or so) on the socket.
The Phone Guard can be programmed to allow only 01, 02 and 03 calls (and specific mobiles) or whatever else is 'safe'.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
thanks Heinz had a quick glance at them what a good idea had heard about them before but never actually seen them. do you think you would be able to use more than one because he has two sockets and despite a blocked phone before they made calls through the second socket:mad:
think i may invest in one for myself my kids are getting to that age where they want to chat for hours lolslowly going nuts at the world:T0 -
Yes, you need a Phone Guard on each active socket.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
