PC Memory

Just a quick on hopefully.
Im looking at putting some more memory in the PC. I have looked around and I am unsure on 1 thing.
The PC currently has 1 GB of DDR2-5300-667mhz memory. On one of the site that I was on I noticed that there was hardly any price differnce for a better one. Which is 6400-800mhz. I know its nothing much, but for the sake of 3p Ill pay it.
I know they are basicaly the same. But just wondering, would their be an issue changing it. I know I would have to take out the other memory, but would this result in any problems.
Thanks in advance for any replys.

It's down to your motherboard. To find out your mo/bo get and run PCWizard or SIW -system info for windows- both free progs. Or just look at the mo/bo ,what is printed on it. Next go to the m/b makers site and look up the spec.
Faster memory should run but only at whatever speed is supported by the m/b - it can run slower. Sometimes a m/b will not accept faster ram!
Also you should use ddr2 in matched pairs for best results. In my experience extra memory gives diminishing returns.A fresh install of xp will give a better improvement.0
