I'm looking to buy a laptop but have absolutely no idea about specifications or prices
and so I'm not really sure what I'm looking at or even where to start...
I currently have a 3 year old desktop computer but want to be able to sit out in the garden and generally have a bit more flexability so I am going to get wireless internet set up for the laptop.
Like I said, I don't really know what I'm looking at specification-wise, I just want to be able to access the internet and maybe watch dvds on it. I don't need a lot of storage really. The other main thing is that it is quite light as I have problems with my joints and moving around. Also, I'm not able to spend more than £400-£450.
Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

The type of laptop that would suit requirements and budget are like the Acer Aspire 5920G and are perfectly adequate. Most manufacturers do this type of laptop and if your requirements are just what you state then the choice is usually made on how you feel the laptop looks and feels.

These are 15.4 inch widescreen screens but there are 12 - 14 inch screens if you want something smaller and lighter.
I would point out that very few laptops in this price range have the battery power to play a full length DVD without a recharge.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
Hello I'm looking for a laptop too and because I can get the DELL employee program discount, I've been looking there.
The discount is 3%
Cashback is around 6%
To me it's a no brainer - go for the cashbash - but - my moneysaving nose tweeks - is there anyway of combining the two.
If there is anyone who wants to give me any advice on bying a laptop, here are the specs
It will be mainly used for internet and will be used solely abroad -( so hassle free is a must - no point in having great support - it just has to be a reliable make)
It needs to have a good processer and enough memory that it shouldn't need an upgrade for a bit.
I can't think there is anything else.
can anyone help xxx0 -
toshiba's are deemed very reliable in recent surveys, sometimes above apples so they would be a good start
dont know much about there models thoughBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Does anyone recommend going to one of the high street suppiers or is there a better way?
And are Dell not all that?
Hmmm....0 -
I would go for a Dell unless I was getting a stunning deal elsewhere. I would avoid the high street , Currys, Comet, PC World, et al. I would buy from a Supermarket, or John Lewis.0
