Either really, the easiest is to cut it up into small pieces and put it into two separate bins, without bothering to activate it.
It would probably be an 0870 no. to cancel it anyway.
You wouldnt be able to cancel it on the freephone activation line as i think thes are automtic.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

ok thanks, i will just cut it up and not bother activating it.

Well there is a difference - if you cancel it you will have no credit card.

If you just fail to activate it you will have a card, just an (in theory anyway) unusable one. There's a small chance it could come back to bite you.

Why was it sent to you?
What is the credit limit on it?

i applied for it (a while ago, had forgotten all about it to be honest) - but i just dont want it or need it now.

i have two othe cards which i have just cleared the balance of so i have credit there if i need it, plus they both have better interest rates than the one that just popped through the door.

i interested as to how it may come back and bite me?

Unless you have an excellent credit rating, maybe you should keep it anyway and just spend a small amount on it each month (paying it off in full) to make your rating better? Just a thought.

If you really don't want the card, I would cut the card into four pieces and send it back (via recorded delivery) to where it came from along with a cancellation note.

I would ring the compnay to cancel it. Then cut it up and return with a letter sent recorded delivery just to cover yourself.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

Give it too a more deserving soul and let them spend on it They will be very grateful and may even send you the 1st payment so as to keep your credit file clean. Go on you know it makes sense hehehe \0/
