Complete re-wire of 3 bedroom house – fair price?

Hi all,

I wonder if you could help please. I have received the following quote to re-wire a 3 bedroom mid terrace house in South West London:

1 x 100 amp consumer unit fitted with two 30ma RCD’s
20 x Twin Sockets
Switches for Immersion heater, boiler and Cooker point.
2 x Smoke Detectors fitted with interlink (Hall and Landing)
1 Ceiling light in each room plus 2 outside lights at the front and back.

All wall switches and sockets to be flush mounted into walls and making good to chases carried out. All necessary bonding to water and gas services carried out and site cleared of old electrical accessories and wiring on completion.

Total = £3,200 + VAT.

Your comments would be much appreciated

Many thanks and regards
Mike

  • Seems a bit on the high side, but maybe not for London. Did you get an itemised quote?

Thank you for those replies. Unfortunately they did not break down the costs on the quote. I will get quotes from a couple of other contractors to see how they compare.

    Thanks again.

I had my 3 bed house rewired last year & cost in the region of £3500. All walls were chased & made good afterwards & wiring/sockets supplied at cost as friend of a relative doing job.

I'm also London based & anything up to £4500 seems to be the going rate for a 3 bed property, going by the quotes I had.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Thanks for that info cattie - as that price seems to be about right for the London area I will accept it.
