reclaiming from a closed account - HSBC

Hi, posting on behalf of a friend who's tried logging in - unsuccessfully.

My friend had an account with HSBC. He's applied for his charges back, and under hardship as well, but was told by HSBC to go away as he is no longer a customer with them.

Is this an acceptable response, if not what is his next course of action?

They can decline hardship. Is that their final response? If it is then he can ask the FOS to relook at his complaint.

They can decline hardship as NWM says, but (as a far as I am aware) cannot say "you are not a customer any longer"
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Slight slip there oscar. If the person is not a customer, they can say that "you are not a customer any longer" since it would be factual. I think you meant that they could not say you cannot claim whatsoever even if the account it closed, is that right?
Get some coffee, that's what I have at the moment.
