Car insurance - gone over estimated mileage

Hi,

When taking out my insurance I estimated the annual mileage as upto 3000. It turns out that with 1 week left on the policy we've actually racked up 7000 miles!!! Does this invalidate the policy or should I leave it alone?

Cheers.

It does not normally invalidate the policy.

If you have a claim after you have exceeded the mileage you have declared the Insurers normally either ask you to pay the difference in premium between what you paid and what you should have paid. Or they have an increased excess typically between £100 and £300 on top of your normal excess.

It would be sensible on any future policies to give a mileage that is more accurate
