Selling a mobile phone help

I am about to sell a mobile phone on ebay and was wondering what I should do before sending the phone off when sold?
The phone is brand new, which I won but don't want (PAYG).
The packaging hasn't been opened.
Do I need to open the packaging and note down serial numbers of the phone etc?
Am I suppose to include a receipt?
I know that I need to send the order as recorded.
Thanks for any advice!

Importantly though recorded is NOT rhe correct service to use, it must go special delivery. Also, make sure your seller preferences are set to exclude non UK bidders.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have sold loads of mobile phones on ebay and have always sent them by Recorded delivery with no problems.
If it is brand new and unopened it should be ok but I would open it and take a note of the IMEI number (this may be on the outside of the box as well).
There are dodgy people out there that would substitute another phone and send it back to you as faulty looking for a refund.
Like Soolin says make it clear that you will not accept bids from outside the UK.
You will possibly get a better price for it if is unlocked to all networks rather than locked to one in particular. Make sure you mention this in your auction.
Take a good photo of the actual item, don't use a stock photo. I always feel people prefer to see what they are actually buying.

Well you've been really lucky, that's all I can say!
1. Recorded delivery items rarely show up as being delivered these days, so you risk claims of 'not delivered' even if they have been.
2. Recorded delivery only insures up to £39, so if you have to make a claim against RM, that's the most you'll get back.
3. I'm not even sure that Recorded delivery insurance covers mobile phones. In which case, you'll get nothing back from RM if you have to make a claim. ** Disclaimer ** I may be wrong on this point!0 -

That is a sweeping statement!! I don't believe you for a minute. Where is your proof of this!
Sounds like nonsense to me!0 -
Perhaps they speak from personal experience? To be fair, melliott1963 is not the first person I've seen on here having problems with Recorded Delivery tracking as delivered online. I haven't had problems myself, but I wouldn't take that to mean that those who have had problems are talking nonsense.
Personally, I think it is in the best interests of the seller to post via Special Delivery, if using Royal Mail, as Recorded Delivery is only covered up to £39 in the event of non-delivery.0 -

I am well quoted as posting that of every single item I sent recorded in October 2008 not one single one ever tracked online to delivery. If they had been ebay items, which they were not, I would lose any associated paypal claims.
My current tally shows that around 40- 50% of my recorded items never actually update to show item delivered online.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Postie's point of view here.
Soolin the online for recorded is not great, it takes ages for recorded items to show up as being received. If you call your local delivery office, they can check on their systems which are a bit different from the one you use, with the item number and posting date. You shouldn't need to do this ofc but it can take ages.
Another reason I would go for special delivery instead of recorded is, I'm sad to say, is lazy posties. These are few and far between, but we have one in our office, who's motto is "it's only a recorded", I have pointed out to him that the customer isn't then getting the service that they have paid for and he just shrugs and doesn't really care. I must say that these posties are few and far between in our office, but as he's a senior member of staff, they don't really like someone who's only been there for 2 yrs telling them this kind of thing, needless to say this guy hates me with a vengeance and tuts everytime he walks past me now :rotfl: Who said women were biatches
If in doubt go with special delivery, it gets handled totally different and is a more secure way to post everything. 4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Strange, I regularly use and track recorded delivery items. They all tracked, albeit some only appeared online long after actual delivery. Plus sometimes the signatures are missing.0

Slighty OT, but I was thinking of selling some old mobile phones. I have the boxes and instructions, but haven't sold one before on ebay. Does it really matter if I do not include the box and/or instructions? It's just I don't want people saying they received just a box and no phone scams etc?
I also heard that if you have less than 10 FB, you might not fetch more than if you had say 100 FB?

IMEI number is on the side of he box, ideal to photocopy should you need it0
