May I join in? :) Tara raves about this thrad so I thought now was the right time for me to thnk about wandering in here.

I think we might be shabby without the chic. We've been, most recently, camping in my parents house, it was meant to be six months and seems to have become three years:eek: here, and before that, time spent living out of a car load and few suitcases of stuff while living out of the country. Some of my stuff went into storage 7 years ago, the rest of our stuff went in 5 years ago, and finally we are going to get to unpack it. I can't even remember some of what we have:o but I know a lot of it will be in a terrible state. But I'm excited to see it and to maybe overhaul some of it to try and get some chic into the shabby.

The house we are buying needs a lot of work, so I'm going to resist the temptation to start decorating, until we get an idea of what we will do first. (some structural issues, an extension, moving the kitchen....) I expect it to take us maybe 10-15 years to start getting it how we really want it.

Meanwhile to day a F&B paint chart arrived (I'm only human) and I'm sitting here trying to decide on a colour for the windows (it can't wait).

When we move I'll be able to see what we have and start on the furniture but until then any input on window colour is gratefully received!

    Welcome lostinrates!!!!!!!!!!!!! :A:A:A:A

Your new house sounds soooo exciting, I can't believe you're finally going to be getting your stuff out of storage, you will have a ball uncovering forgotten treasures. :T:T Any chance of a pic of the house?

I like pale sage green or cream for window frames, especially sash windows.

Shabby chic finds today: 2 gorgeous little cream china ramekins 50p each and 2 Tupperware tubs 50p each. Too bargainous for words! I also got a FAB brand new (with tags) Oasis skirt for £8, it is gorgeous. Yippee!!!!!!!!! :j:j:j And my bluebells are still going strong on the kitchen windowsill. :)

p.s. this is so cute and not too dear compared to CK etc:

Yes, I'll send you some as soon as we exchange! :) I'm going to take some better ones this weekend....we have taken mainly ones of things like big ominous cracks, and dropped lintels :rotfl: I had my heart in my mouth most of yesterday as more drama unfolded.

We have a mixture of sash and casement windows, and at the front old brick while the back is mainly rendered (very well) and freshly painted a very un shabby chic but neat and bright cream, the wrong sort of cream if you know what I mean, but that is staying for a long while! So your greeny/creamy colours are on the right track to compliment the brick. I'm even thinking a sort of putty (like f&b bone sort of shade.

I'm so impressed at the idea of growing bluebells on a windowsill! I've never thought of bringing bluebells indoors as anything but a cut flower!

edit: tara, your inbox is worse than mine for always being full ;)

Well,I've been to see the corner unit, its lovely and handmade by my friends dad who passed away 6 yrs ago, very sturdy.
I'm going to lightly sand it i think and see how light it comes up as i have pine,if its nit right then i'll paint it all instead of leaving just the top. It's got 4 panels in the door at the bottom so i'm going to paper that i think and it was free:rotfl:

I think though i'll take her out for a meal to thank her its only fair. Thats the last of the big stuff i need now unless of course something comes up that is too irresistable to turn down. Luckily i too have a very understanding hubby who has now come round to my way of thinking and i have free reign to do what i want:rotfl:Bless him

I'm with tara on the pale sage green for the windows. Mind you, I do like the sound of a putty colour (is that a bit like stone?). TBH though, I think your best bet would be to rip out all of the windows and replace with a nice white UPVC :eek::eek::D.
10-15 years is qiute a slog for getting it done so you'll need to have some sort of action plan and create a haven for yourself somewhere. If you are able to do the garden quite cheaply then it may be an idea to do that, or if it's large (which it sounds like it could be), maybe just a little secluded area so you don't have to sit looking at a money pit all day every day!
We've been at our house for 5 years now and it's still not done. Hopefully it'll be done within the next 2 years and then I can get my garden all prettied up properly.

Right, I'm off to ebay to look for a dressing table (chest type) for my bedroom. DH still won't let me have a compactum so I'm at a loss as to what to do for storage.

Maybe you lovely ladies will have some idea,
space 8"4 high, 4"2 wide. DH wants the wardrobe in there. It has to hold all of our clothes bar what will fit in my dressing chest and DH's bedside cabinet. I have long dresses which need to be hung, DH has shirts etc. He's 6"3 so his clothes are big. I can't see how we'll fit everything into that space even though I'm minimal with clothes. Any ideas?
Funny child post for the day: DS with smelly feet... "You have to get rid of those socks, they make your feet stink"..... "No Mum, it's my feet that do that!":EasterBun(he chose the pic!)

How much stuff actually has to be hung? No room for drawers anywhere else? Below or above hanging rail allowing length for full length dresses you will have rom for other storage (e.g. boxes). You DH's clothes, though he's tall, won't hang longer than any maxi/full length dress you might own. Also, do you have loft space or anywhere that heavy coats etc could go in summer and floaty things go in winter (I have to say though I where summer stuff in winter, and this year all but our very heavy coats and hats/scarves are still in use now!)

Putty ...yes, a bit like a stone sort of colour. I think you are right, the way to sanity is a schedule. The front/side garden (its on a very quiet road, no near neighbour) has least obviou view of where work needs to be done (apart from that the kitchen at the moment is in a reception room, lol). The garden is sort of in bits with a big scary back bit (the tallest conifers I've ever seen makes it feel like where a witches house in a forest might be) but if we get time to sit down together there are places. Luckily although it all needs work its all very neat and clean....I guess it will look a lot worse after we move in actually, for a while!:o

New me, i have no idea hat paint i used, lol. i was at my mums earlier and i rememebered my little bro ( well he 14,lol) has a avery nice blue bedroom so i asked mum for a little pot of the paint, how cheeky. but it is a gorgeous colour.and then once painted blue i used a cotton bud to paint the white dots on , and when fully dry i gave a coat of pva glue. not sure i'd use pva glue on the ones i'm going to use for plants, as i liked it when they were a matt finish. but i've not decided fully on what i'm doing with the other 3 pots yet. too many ideas now, lol.

Not fantastic pic's, but i'm so chuffed.

heres the pots before and my new pen pot after.

Here are the little wooden hearts I mentioned a few days ago that I got from an ebay link on here. I think they look so lovely next to these roses.

I just love reading what everyone else gets up to 'shabby' wise :) This thread and the 'crochet anyone thread' are so inspiring.

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.
