Can anybody recommend a good shampoo for my 13 year old DD who has started getting greasy hair please? She has been using a tea-tree shampoo up until now, which was very good until the grease problem arose.

You need a mild shampoo that she can use daily if necessary. Don't be tempted to use anything too harsh and grease-stripping (and I think Tea tree might be a bit much) as it encourages the body to overcompensate and produce extra oils, making the problem worse. Can you still buy dry shampoo? That could be useful at mopping-up any greasiness if she hasn't got time to wash.
This takes me back to my own DD (now 25) and how sad I felt for her when she started developing spots and greasy hair - it's a horrid time for youngsters.0 -
Try the shampoo bars from lush, they last forever and the salesperson will be able to reccommend one suitable!0

Im in my 40's and have always had greasy hair, although not as bad now as when I was a teenager obviously.
I have been using Sunsilk Fresh For Longer in a blue plastic bottle. However, I haven't been able to find any lately so don't know if they've stopped doing it. It really does work and keep the grease away.
Ive now tried Herbal Essences Fresh Balance too and this is quite good. Its got "icy pineapple & cotton extracts" and "normal/oily hair" on the bottle and it is green shampoo in a clear bottle.
I really don't think that mild, daily wash shampoos are the answer because the grease just comes straight back. Just use one of the above type of shampoos and make sure she puts conditioner on the ends at least 2 inches along but not on her scalp.0 -
I had the same problem at her age and I used baby shampoo every day, I still wash my hair everyday as it really does get greasy very quickly.2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0

Pantene Pro-V Clarifying Purity Shampoo also try this: she can put some talcum powder in her hands lightly rub together and rub into the scalp. The powder takes care of the yuckiness!

Definately go for a mild shampoo that can be used daily. Use anything harsh and the grease will become ten times worse. Shes just going to have to accept that daily shampooing is part of her regime from now on. Also only use one wash and not two, any conditioner use at the ends only and the best thing I ever did was to keep a short choppy style that finger dried rather then blasting it with heat.
I would look at MOP products or Aveda, expensive, but a blob the size of 10p is all thats needed so will last for ages0 -
Thank you for your replies, there are some ideas that we will try.0

I'm 27 and have the same problem so she may be unluckly like me and never grow out of it
My hair really needs washing daily but I can get away with an extra day if I use Batiste Dry Shampoo (about £2 from Boots, Sainsburys, Superdrug etc) Its an aerosol can, spray it on the roots, massage in, give it a couple of minutes and brush out. It absorbs the oil and athough no substitute for freshly washed hair it does get rid of greasy roots.
It comes in 3 varieties, the tropical coconut's my fave!
I've tried all sorts of shampoos and scalp treatments, both here and in the US and have never found a solution for the problem0 -
It could be she's like my family where we become "resistant" to one type of shampoo after a while - ones we found that worked for longer were things like the Body Shop Grapefruit one (discontinued), Body Shop Ice Blue one (discontinued... sense an ongoing theme here), Lush solid ones work on my hair and Head and Shoulders does for some bizzarre reason. Other ones I build up resistance to very very quickly.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
