MFI Kitchen Problem

Hi, my parents bought a kitchen set from MFI and we ahve had some issues with them.

Firstly, they sent us the wrong work top and we told them straight-away about their mistake and they booked the correct one to be sent out at a later date. Since we didnt have the worktop, we asked the builder to start work when the worktop comes as he was charging us daily. When the worktop came, we re-booked the builder and he recently started the work. Now we have discovered that MFI got the measurements wrong by quite a bit and there will be a big gap when we finish the kitchen. My parents phoned and visited MFI and they were fobbed off with their 14 day notification period.

Is there anything anyone could suggest to us to help us sort this out?

Nick.

I would argue that the 14 days only starts when the last item is delivered and not when the first items are delivered.

    1. Where is the gap and how big is the gap
    2. A copy of the kitchen plan would be and should be enough to show MFI the mistake.
and as a gesture of goodwill will they resolve the situation.

i bought a kitchen from mfi and we had them fit it so when they saw a problem they got it sorted straight away
but as i had all new appliances my wm went wrong after 4 months they said they were sending someone out to repair i said i wanted a new one etc
    mfi extra care stinks
To cut a long story short i went to the C .A. B they told them they will issue me out with a new one but they were still being a pain so....
I went to the store and saw the Lady who designed my kitchen one phone call from her i had a new wm on its way by the time i got it i had been without a wm for 9 weeks
so if you dont get anywhere with the extra care and believe me you wont because i phoned them up every day and they wouldnt budge
My advice would be go to the store(or ring them up and ask for the person who sorted your kitchen)
if your going take your plans if your phoning have your plans at hand with customer ref number etc
They are more likely to sort your kitchen that way than go to extra care because i was disgusted with their service and told them so
but i also said that the lady who designed my kitchen and the kitchen fitters were brill and they were its just mfi extra care

hi, you, don't mention if it was MFI who designed the kitchen for you, you just say they got the measurements wrong. Was this from information that you gave them, or from ones they had taken themselves. If it was the latter, the question of 14 days is irrellivent. They should have supplied you with the correct items to enable the kitchen to be completed. Not only should they have done that, you could also try telling them that because of their original error in supplying the wrong worktop, you were involved in additional expense in having to get a joiner back to finish the work when the correct one was finally delivered. Long shot, because all of these companies usually cover their rear ends by saying 'tradespeople should not be booked until goods have been recieved'. The answer to that is, that is precisely what you did, tradespeople were not booked until you received the kitchen. The fact that the wrong worktop was sent was entirely down to them, not you.

Firstly however, telephone the store, ask to talk to the manager, (don't be fobbed of with anyone else) ask for the address of their head office, and the name of the Chief Executive Officer. Usually they ask why you want this, very briefly tell them you have a complaint to make against his store ( the one where you purchased the kitchen), and that they have not been very helpful. One of two things will happen, either the manager will resolve the problem, pretty quickly, or he will give you the information you asked for.

If he doesn't solve the problem, then write to the store detailing exactly your complaint, and saying that if they don't resolve, or agree to resolve, the problem within 14 days, you will issue a writ in the county court, for the cost of the worktop, plus all of the additional expense you incurred through their incompetance, and send a copy of your letter to the CEO, (make sure you put on the bottom of your letter, 'Copy to The Chief Executive Officer)'. But you must put it in writing. Even if the manager agrees to resovle the issue, put that in writing to store outlining exactly what he agreed as well. It is so important to keep everything in black and white

We had a bit of a nightmare with our MFI kitchen. They delivered the wrong stuff (worktop again, amongst other stuff) & loads of things were damaged. they wouldn't let me check anything in as they were delivering it either.

Luckily it was a mate of ours who was fitting it (it's his job) and he managed to juggle us in around other jobs. However, after loads of problems I rang MFI who were totally unhelpful etc. I then informed the manager that I was on my way to the store and I was going to contact the press about the problems and I was going to stage a sit-in until all matters were resolved. I told him that if he wanted me removed from his store then he'd have to call the Police who would of course be on my side, seeing as I was in the right!

Ten minutes later he rang me back and said that if I held off the protest then he would get all relevant parts to me within 48 hours and also refund me £600 (just under 10% of the kitchen cost)!!! Amazing really how they change when you are firm with them hahaha

Try the same thing, you might get a result but make sure you speak to the store manager!

I had an MFI kitchen and they were a nightmare. Bits missing, wrong worktops, damaged worktops, deliveries never made, 3 months without a sink etc.

After no luck with the store, I contacted Watchdog. Watchdog wanted to feature me the following week.

I contacted the store manager and told him if I didn't get some compensation then I would go on TV to explain the problems.

I was offered a token refund, but I said that I wanted 2K. I kept calling the store manager and I got the 2K.
  • I have ordered an MFI kitchen and bathroom in February 2006. All of the payments were made with a credit card (in order to accumulate Airmiles and the credit card paid off in full). The order was finalised to include amongst other things a single electric oven and not the double oven that kept appearing on the bill at an additional cost of £25, a chrome towel rail and an instalation date no later than 10th April 2006.

The Sale person advised that they would send a copy of the sales invoice to our home address in the post. This did not arrive despite several phone calls to prompt the invoice.

A week ago the bathroom arrived and it contained the thirty quid cheaper white towel rail and not the chrome one agreed. The Aberdeen branch of MFI were immediately contacted and said they had one in stock and could make a straight swap. While there we double checked that the installation date was still the 10th April 2006 as my girlfriend and I had both made arrangements from our respective shift work to be available for the installation.

Very early this morning the final items were removed from the old kitchen and bathroom and the cat was re-house for a week with family. And nobody turned up.

It would appear that the installation had been scheduled for the next week when we are both back at work after the leave we had organised, and that the kitchen sink, a drawer and one of the work tops were damaged in transit and will not be arriving with the rest of the kitchen, but hopefully in five working days by other means.

We have made our considerable displeasure clear to MFI (Tel. 0191 5162400 to avoid the 0870 number) and that we are wanting at least a 20% re-imbursement (as an opening gambit) from the £6000 plus cost for the appalling Customer Service, lack of simple communication and the expenses we will incure trying to get round their mess.

Can anyone suggest better courses of action and the most to obtain from MFI for this shambles?

Hi, thanks for the help guys, my parents are dealing with it. MFI people designed it on their computer in store and one of their guys came and took measurements. Not sure what my parents have decided to do. So many shananigans, do little time!
