Shower Enclosure Help!

Hi guys,

We are going to be moving into a new home next week, the bathroom is really disgusting so thats the first job. Would really like to take the bath out (neither of us take baths anymore) and put in a shower.
Ive done the wander round B&Q and some bathroom showrooms but find that they are either hugely expensive (our budget isnt that big) or really flimsy (hubby is on the heavier side!)....

Anyone got any idea where I can buy (dont mind buying online) a decent shower enclosure that isnt hugely expensive but wont fall over in the first time you get in it?

Any help much appreciated.

Wickes do some nice shower units.

From a personal point of view, I always feel it's a mistake to remove a bath. You may have trouble in the future when you want to sell

Hubby and I refurbished our bathroom last year and turned it into a shower room. We bought all the fittings from a local plumber's merchant, who gave us a very good discount in lieu of giving it to a plumber (think this is common practice?) and who had a very good choice of merchandise. We used a local plumber who had been recommended to us by 2 different neighbours (so we were able to view his handy work). Must say, we were very pleased with the end result, and I certainly wouldn't worry about not having a "bathroom". If we were to move we would favour a property with a shower room.

Would say that it very much depends on the property. If it is a family size house then I think it would be a major mistake to remove the bath. Up to say a two bedroom house I think you could get away with it. Would a compromise be a shower bath which gives you greater space at the shower end. I think this would probably work out a cheaper option than a shower enclosure too.
Get hold of all the manufacturers brochures and then price stuff online. It's amazing the savings you can make.

    Good luck.
  • We have just refurbished the shower room which we created 20 years from the existing bathroom. We checked with the local estate agent whose opinion was similar to busymumof3. From a resale point of view a shower is desirable for most FTBs or elderly people. A family size house needs a bath.

From experience a bath with a shower unit would probably be cheaper.

Just bought a shower with enclosure from bathstore.com - they have shops nationwide and I just hit a 50% sale. Got a huge 1.2m x 900mm tray with fab glass on two sides with sliding door and shower and thingies to go with it for under £900.

Thank you so much for your input.

We have made the decision to put in a shower (I know its probably not the best thing to do if we want to sell) but right now we never take baths and have always wanted a shower room so are just going to do it!

After much searching on ebay we eventually found a great bathroom showroom who has done us a very good deal on a gorgeous shower enclosure! Just need to get the thing put in there now!

    Thanks again guys.
