How MS improved shutdown times in Windows 7

I've never understood why my Mac (OS X 10.4) boots and shutsdown so quickly, yet my XP install takes several minutes to boot (and a couple more until all the services have started, usually time to make a coffee) and often an age to shutdown.
I know, it's pretty lame.
Try waking Windows up from sleep. Mac OS X starts instantly. Windows, not so much.
Still, the fact Microsoft wanted people to shutdown their computer by clicking a button labelled "start" tells me they're a bit confused about the whole shutdown/startup thing.0 -
Installing the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service helped speed up my shut down time a bit."Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain0
