It's a chinese outfit who used to make pc's for a big name US company they are good value0

Lenovo bought IBM's laptop division a few years ago. I would see describe as good laptop makers aimed at business users0
-
I'd say they were a decent name but not a big player like HP, Dell, Tosh, Sony etc. Maybe on a par with Acer. Better than Fujitsu and way better than eMachine, Ei System, Advent and Packard Bell.
May I also suggest...

I'm typing on my Lenovo as we speak...can't recommend them highly enough. I've had mine for 3 years and it's still going strong, despite me using it prety much non-stop (no PC), and for playing games, watching films, etc (all stuff which it's not "technically" meant for). It's been reliable and if and when I need a new laptop, Lenovo will be one of the brands I look at. Was a bit unsure when I bought it initially, as I was also unfamiliar with the brand, but I'd say it was well worth the money I paid for it (£600 3 years ago). Love it to pieces0

I use 3 of them from a 12" travelling model (x32) on holiday to a hefty one at work (apparently the weight is due to the metal roll cage around the screen). Very little to complain about, except that the 1920 dpi wide screen model is not really usable on it's own screen, you have to choose between blurred fonts at a lower res setting or laughably tiny fonts and icons (so at work I use an external monitor set to 1024 native). For home use I'll stick to a nice old 1024 res Lenovo. This issue probably affects all new laptops though, the manfrs seem to think we only want to watch DVDs on them.
Lenovos make great used buy. Have a look at Tier One http://www.tier1online.com/ who seem to specialise in refurb Lenovos with XP installed - avoid anything with less than 1 GB of RAM and try to get the tail end of Lenovo's warranty that's often offered.0 -

Lenovo bought IBM's pc division but are effectively IBM computers, they make Laptops and Desktops mainly aimed at business. IBM make servers etc under their name. We have 12 lenovo laptops and 10 desktops as well as 2 IBM servers along with a couple of NEC servers and about 4 NEC desktops and I have to say the Lenovo are far more reliable than the NEC stuff and the support for Lenovo is fabulous!!
The Lenovo series would make for a good home pc but check the specs as they are set up for business usually and may be missing some things you may want. (some people here have bought N series as a home pc because the specs are closer to the home market type specs)Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
They are top notch, as mentioned earlier, used to be the IBM Thinkpad range, some of the best PC laptops money could buy.
Arguably they are still one of the best brands in the business, incomparable with cheaper things like Acer. Business users (me as one of them) swear by them. The keyboards and quality in general are excellent. They usually receive rave reviews in the IT press too.
However they are expensive in general.0 -
Like Isofa said they are excellent. The old IBM Thinlpads were some of the most robust and reliable laptops around. In my experience Lenovo have continued that. They're not usually particularly stylish but they are good. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
flossy - if you want a decent lappy at not much money, tier1 have a Thinkpad T43, 1GB, 1.8Gig P4, XP, for a whopping £199 !!! Mega-bargain...I got my kids T41's each for xmas, rugged and perform well......check it out......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
