I hve spent the last week making lots of phone calls and not getting anywhere, also several emails.

I have contacted local careers service who gave me a tel no, managed to get through once, they would ring me back-not. So tried several times,no luck, left several messages. Rang the national learndirect No, they could not help me, told me to ring local No-could not tell me about help with costs.

All I now know is that the course costs £375 which I do not have.

I can do it for free in Sept as I may well still be signing on in Sept, but thats months when I could have got my qualification and got a job.

I am sure i remember Gordon Brown saying something like `I may not be able to help you keep this job, but will be able to help you get another one`
that does not seem to be true.

I am going to sign on this thursday so will try going into the learn direct center and see what they say.

The concept of "your local college" is alien to me. I don't know what that would mean. How do you find "your local college"? - also, I might be moving, no idea. So I am just swilling ideas around... but until I work out what to do I am a bit stuck as to what to do ... if that makes sense.

Could easily find a random job 100 miles away and be starting in a month, or not. Anything can happen.

    Hi Pastures New

A quick Google of "Colleges in South Wales" brings up quite a few options! Not knowing exactly where you are, I can't be more specific. If you can give us some idea of where you are, people could probably better advise you – I know that Coleg Morgannwg for example offers A Levels...

The link below lists a number of colleges that you could either Google to get their website or phone using the details provided to ask for a prospectus to be sent out.

Alternatively you can access adult learning courses from the council sites (Cardiff Council, RCT CBC, Swansea Council, Newport City Council etc) which give you an overview of courses at a number of locations. You can use their search function on the website, pick up their prospectus from libraries or shopping centres or ask them to send you one.

    Hope some of that helps
