Don't know where this thread keeps going! Can't find it again, but this is a lot to do with the economy, considering it's about the bloke who runs the country and ultimately, the finances!!!

Anyway, the petition is now top spot on the petitions homepage with just under 35k signitories at the moment:

Sky News now have this as their second to top headline in politics. The telegraph, times, dailymail, politics.co.uk, and the Scotsman have now run stories on this, giving it even more exposure.

Gordon yesterday suffered a blow to his authority with the Gurkha issue. Today, he's likely to suffer another blow to his authority about the expenses issue, voting around 6ish tonight.

On the labour home website, there is talk of a leadership contest if Brown looses again today. http://www.labourhome.org/

So, are we near Gordon being challenged for his position again? Thoughts?

Well seems Gordon's now done a U-Turn on the vote and bottled out of debating the second home allowance. They will still be debating on other issues of expenses.

That's after already changing his tune once already.

The replacement (if he goes) will be as bad as he is and as bad as TB was. So it makes no difference, while this party are in, we will never get out of this mess the country is in.
Education, crime, health, national security, finances, all to pot.

You know when people say 'I blame the parents' in certain circumstances?
Well, here, I blame the voters.

Well, here, I blame the voters.

I know people say you vote for the government. However, no one voted GB in, we never had that chance. We could have had the chance at the general election Brown bottled out of at the last minute after seeing the polls.

Given the chance to vote, Brown wouldn't be PM now, the polls showed that the last time round.

The replacement, in the interim, I would guess, would be Harriet Harman, however, the mood would be devastating to the labour party and I think there would be a vote of no confidence.

If you dont like the parties , get yourself elected . You cannot complain if you are too idle to get off your bums and do something about it. Just imagine if you could oust a government with a petition the country would be in chaos

This isn't just about the petiton.

But not everyone has the time to run for election or to get themselves into politics. It does not mean, however, that in a democracy, that means they don't have a voice and cannot air it.

The petitions website is a tool given to the electorate, and they are using it.

I have read some of those pages and i really as a ex labour voter can not get my head round that there are people out there that still have some faith in this slimy government.. how strange!!

This post reminds of the prisoner chained upside down in 'The Life of Brian' extolling the virtues of Roman rule.

What influence does a person gain by getting elected. Brussels make many of the rules today. As for domestic politics, the process of government is looking increasingly undemocratic. MPs are loyal to party selection conmmittees rather than the electorate. Many seem far more preoccupied with their BTL businesses than government. They dutifully obey the party whip even when it goes against their principles or the party manifesto. In many cases, the government bypasses the House of Commons altogether.

Why? I thought they had a big majority
