Hi I remember reading about a fixed rate recently at 2.94% with H.S.B.C but this was only for 2 years and £299 fee. maybe they have others for 5 years. shrewdal

    A few questions...

Why can't I get the better rates being offered to new customers? (I'd happily stay with YBS as they've been okay but I'd take my business elsewhere if there's a reasonable saving to be made. I'd guess I'll need 4.89% to be worth anymore than a fiver).

Are there any good fees free deals about?

Thanks in adavance for any help:cool:

Thats the problem everyone has with the yorkshire building society i.e they only offer
competetive rates to new customers and treat their existing customers with distain.
SVR is still 5% when the bank rate is 0.5%.

Thats an issue for lots of big companies not just banks. Offer the best deals to new customers. The only answer is to always try get the best deal. If you need to switch mortgage (or credit card or energy supplier etc) to get the best deal then do it.

MSE is a great help for us all in screwing the companies back!
Here to help and be helped!

Does anyone think 5/10 year rates might go back down in the next 6 months? I

Well these "experts" don't think so, quite the contrary...... http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/may/08/mortgages-fixed-rate-deals

I'm not convinced Mr Charcol is completely unbiased on this subject... He will be needing a bit of business at the moment and people waiting and riding the trackers aren't giving him a penny!

And back onto the subject,. I've been doing some playing with figures of late deciding what I'm going to do when my tracker becomes less attractive and have been putting figures into the YBS 5 yr offset calculator thingy.
Went for a play on the site today and the option has disappeared !

Don't know what to make of that, maybe just website maintenance or something else ?

Seems that way. I blew it and missed out when they had a 4.69% 5 year fixed.
