Item posted but buyer away on holiday

Hi,

I sent an item to a buyer who went on holiday while the item was attempted to be delivered by royal mail. They received a card with the attempted delivery date being 08/04/09

The buyer has contacted me today (22 days later) asking me to resend the item as they were on holiday and state the item has been returned to myself but I have not received it back. Tracking states that Royal Mail have the item as they attempted to deliver it but the buyer says Royal Mail do not have it.

They are about to open a Paypal dispute. Any ideas of what to do?

I would ring royal mail and ask them to track it as they often have more information on their system than what it shows online. Also contact both yours and the buyers sorting office to see if its there and what action they have taken
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • how quickly did you dispatch the item ? i would ring the depot that it was left at first, it may well be on its way back to you now tho.

Surley they can't expect you to pay again to resend it as it was their own fault they weren't there to recieve it? I'm sure it will turn up back at yours but these things usually take time....

This is where Ebay / Paypal falls down...heavily in favour of the buyer.
If they open a Paypal dispute even if you provide the tracking number they will refund the buyer as it has not been received.

It's 100% the buyers fault but trust me, through experience, you'll end up getting a chargeback !

I thought that if the tracking showed that the item was attempted to be delivered then this was fine with Paypal

I thought that too...however last year I sent a package to a buyer in Ireland. They tried to deliver when she was out and she put in a claim. Paypal refunded her £75 then next day it was delivered and signed for.

I contacted Paypal who said OK we can see its been delivered, you know have to ask her to repay you.

I told them that as they had given her back the money they should take it back from her and give to me but they said they cannot do that and I would have to ask her to repay me.

After 3 ignored requests I noticed that the item was still showing as unpaid on Ebay so I smacked in a NPB and she paid up !
