A 1 GB graphics card is going to improve your browser's performance how?
I use upwards of 25 screens all with flash programs running within them, I need these screens tiled, and therefore active at all times, this tends to challenge the graphics capacity. I will be increasing this requirement by approximately 33% and am looking for something that will handle it without question.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

(I guess its another case of bigger numbers = better.....without ANY understanding of the numbers and their function)
I happily surf...and game...on a 512mb card @1680x1050 ...maybe if I bought a bigger monitor I'd have to think about a 1Gig card....one of my kids plays at 1400x900 on a 320mb 8800GT
This is the best deal I've managed to find yet I would appreciate if anybody knows better and could inform me.

Graphics handling capacity has been a major problem for me and I am seeking to ensure I eliminate this by expanding to 1gig and fast processor, I will replace memory with existing 4g from crippled pc.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I'm willing to be proven wrong (I have a lot to learn) but I'm still struggling to understand why you'd need a 1gb card..flash doesn't run on the GPU...it's a CPU job...your GPU will just be pushing pixels at the screen...a 512 will do that comfortably...i know my 512mb card can support 2560x1600...1080p is only 1920×1080Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

I appreciate where your coming from but I had not anticipated the increased current need myself due to site modifications and I hope to pre-empt any further mods rather than finding myself in the position that I need to upgrade in the future. There is a financial interest to me here and the current situation I find myself in has cost me dearly and I want to avoid a repetition at all costs. I am not by the way questioning your knowledge (perhaps an understanding of my needs maybe) and would certainly appreciate any input you may have. However my requirements are specific and I am looking for the best price to fulfill them, I like the look of the deal I've posted but this includes £73+ for windows xp so hopefully I will at least find this cheaper and can reduce the price a little. I think the problem I have experienced is due to volume of browsers and flash media running in conjunction with each other.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
In order to run Flash in GPU mode, it has to be enabled by the designer of the Flash content, and unless it is specifically written to use the GPU, it will run slower, not faster:
http://www.kaourantin.net/2008/05/what-does-gpu-acceleration-mean.html
Furthermore, they recommend that content isn't allowed to run in browsers using GPU mode.
In general, if you want to run lots of Flash, you need a fast CPU and lots of RAM.0 -
It reads to me that your current problems are due to insufficient ram/cpu power/bandwidth (internet and possibly bus). Much as the jump from a 512mb card to a 1gb one isn't great, so I'm not gonna try to talk you out of it...but..., I think one of us is misunderstanding the role of the GPU in rendering flash animation...I believe it plays NO part in the process, it is only, as I said earlier, gonna be 'pushing pixels' at the screen.
Obviously if you are gonna be using resolutions higher than 1080p then you'll need the extra vram.
With modern games a lot of the processing IS done on the video card, so for high res gaming lots of vram is essential...but i'm not convinced flash animations will be in the same leagueUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Thanks for your comments, I intend to go for a fast cpu and 4g of ram, I was previously running on 4g with a 3.0 cpu. This was letting me down frequently and I wish to avoid further repetition, the upgrade to 1g graphics is intended as added insurance. The ram I am/was using was 2g each of mixed, maybe this was the cause of my problems? I don't even want to think about bandwidth incapacity, that scares me as there is little I can do about it.
Checked your link Marty but it mangled my head!Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
