Hi
There are adverts about the govenment giving you money if you trade in an old car for a nice new green one. But has anyone looked at all the factors involved to be able to give advice on what is a 'good deal'?
I'm not really sure what is better e.g. a hybrid car. So if anyone has some advice on the subject I would be greatful to hear it, as I would like to consider a greener purchase.
Thanks in advance

No one knows yet and there are only two Hybrid cars the Toyota Prius (£18k) and the Honda Insight (£15.5k) both of which are fairly expensive.0

trading in older cars for a green car is very ungreen
my old peugeot is already made, on the planet and gets better mpg than these new things that cost a lot (in environmental terms) to make

The only true "green" technology at the moment is the Hydrogen car being trailed in America. Even this will only be greener well to wheel if nuclear power is used to produce the fuel.
The toyota prius has been widely discredited as being any more economical or indeed green than diesel or petrol equivalent. I assume the Honda will be more of the same.
If i cared about the environment enough for it to influence my purchases i would be concentrating on getting a economical diesel with low emission from a company that uses a lot of recyclable to make their cars. I'm pretty sure Renault is up to 95% on this score but i'm sure there are better.0
