reference checks

Options
How long should one wait for an answer as to whether your application for a rental property has been successful. I understand that they need to check references/employment but is a week too long? It is getting to the stage where I am thinking about telling them to forget our application because there reference check process has been slow and cumbersome and quite frankly is now starting to irritate me. So what is usually involved in a reference check?

Our rental agency just phoned up our references to check they existed and knew me. I would call and ask if there are any problems. Mine didn't actually phone to say I was accepted it was just they had booked us another appointment when we went in and gave the references and at that they gave us the agreement so actually were never officially told lol

It can take longer than a week. Why not ring the LA and ask how long it will be?

The thing is they are not just ringing up and asking questions they are demanding stuff in writing from various people. It seems a bit over the top but what do I know - I am only a prospective tenant looking to give them money.
