Home Insurance

Hi all,

I'm currently looking to get a contents insurance for the flat me and my girlfriend are renting. It's my first time getting the insurance so would like to ask any recommendations and advise would be helpful.

I've also got one question is that, what is the difference between a joint policy and a single one? What's the advantage/disadvantage of the two?

Thank you very much

When we moved into our flat that we rented, I got a good deal through churchill for the 1st year then the post office for the next 2 years.

We have a joint policy and I have personal cover for my OH, which is only a few quid extra a month.

Joint policy is so that either of you can deal with the insurer IIRC.
  • I renewed my home insurance last night and saved myself a bit of cash.

I firstly went to confused.com and found the best possible quote, which was actually £200 cheaper than my current company. But I then used a friends computer to purchase the insurance by going through my favourite cashback website, pounds2u.com. It was offering £50 cash back with Pink Insurance (which is part of the Hastings group). So overall for another 5 minutes work, I saved another £50 off my annual home insurance!

I believe that confused.com tracks your cookies, so I either delete the cookie history on my current computer or to be safe just use a different one. It seems to work for me and I do this with all my insurances and utilities! So far, this year by using the pounds2u website i've had £175 cashback!

Silverscreen, you need a joint policy if you are not married. It is a matter of insurable interest.

You can only insure property that you own. If only you took out the policy come the time to make a claim you could not claim for the posessions owned by your girlfriend.
