If you are talking about O2 then the LLU packages (ie NOT the Home Access product) as well as being cheap it is one of the best ADSL products you can get with speeds as fast as your phone line will go and a FUP on download that has never been used.

If you are only offered the Access product (base price £17.13) then don't bother.

is it the best access packet or not sure what you are saying...?thanks . also i would ideally like to scrap if i could my bt line. i find £10 approx for bt, then pipex at £14 or was it £17 per month and then i use skype which is best for my phone calls + we have a couple of mobile one on pay as you go along is enough on costings. anything that could help reduce would be great . thanks

  • I switched from Pipex to O2 a few months ago, no regrets. The Pipex service was reliable, but I was paying £24.99 a month for it - I'm paying £7.34 with O2 (£5 discount for having an O2 phone).

When I joined Pipex they were a leading ISP, but were since taken over by Tiscali and really don't seem interested anymore - they certainly didn't put a fight up when I said I was leaving!

There are four of us in our house on an 8meg O2 connection, and we've never had any download limits imposed. They went through issues with their DNS servers a while ago but that seems to have stabilised now. Their webmail is good - much better than O2, and you don't have to use those generated IDs like Pipex (e.g. one of mine was mfyi10 or something like that!)

I can't think of any way to say what I said simpler than I said it but I'll try....
Where O2 have installed their kit in your local exchange (LLU) then the product is good. If they haven't installed their kit then all they will be able to offer is the Home Access package which isn't good. If they offer an upto 20Mbps package you'll be fine.

If you want ADSL from anybody you'll need a BT line but not necessarily one billed through BT.

Well people like the post office will take over a BT line so all your dealings are with them rather than BT but despite you only dealing with the post office it remains a BT line and you can have ADSL on it.

To be honest the savings offered tend to be small and most such outfits want to sell call packages too - most of which will cost the average joe more than services like www.call1899.co.uk and similar. Plus there are companies like TalkTalk who take over the line entirely so you can only have their ADSL on it. Knowing just what you are signing for is very important as contracts can be long and mistakes costly.

IMO it is better to stick with a BT line - that is based on problems I had a long time back with a reseller.
