Video to DVD help

I am looking to buy a DVD recorder and the 1st thing I would want to do with it is transfer my videos from my old home videos onto DVD. Do I need to buy anything extra or is it simply a case of playing the video and recording? Also, say 1 hours worth of video, how much of a 4.7 DVD would that use up?

Sorry to sound dense but I have seen special equipment to move video to DVD but not sure which situation these are for and whether I need one as well as the dvd recorder. Are these to store the video info so you can then plug into the PC and use the pc dvd burner? My TV is nowhere near my PC.

I am sure it is very simple and I am overcomplicating things:rotfl:

Just plug the SCART output from the video player into the SCART input of the DVD recorder and go from there...

The amount of space used on the DVD depends on the quality of the image - you can select this on the DVD recorder. Generally the highest quality mode will allow you to store only 1 hour, while the lowest quality mode (which is generally very bad looking) can get about 6 or even 8 hours.

To get a similar level of quality to VHS tapes the 4 hour setting would be about right.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

    Hi there,

once you have connected the video and the DVD recorder it is quite easy to do literally a matter of play and record. I copied loads of my old videos using a Panasonic Video and separate DVD recorder. When you put a disk in you can choose the record length time of the DVD (1hr being best quality down to 8hrs)

The DVD recorder should enable you to make titles and chapter headings to make things easier to find.

Also remember to finalise the DVD as this will enable it to be played on virtually all DVD players not just he one you recorded it on.

    Hope that helps

    cheers
  • Thank you both, I know what i am doing now! Off to find a good deal online.:j

I got my Panasonic DVD recorder from richer sounds. The guys there are really helpful and they will no doubt throw in a few DVD R's for free

I have just had a look and cannot believe the prices of their clearance bargains. I usually buy reconditioned electricals so I am used to that but they seem too cheap to be true. Does anyone else have any experiance with this company?
