I.P. addresses

Is it possible to change your I.P. address when keeping the same internet provider and using the same computer.

I am with Tiscali and use netgear wireless router.

I have signed up for an internet offer. I would like to sign up my partner for the same offer but conditions say that she can have it but must use a different computer. I am assuming that they can check if you are on the same computer because you have the same I.P. address.

Do I also have to consider IESnare ?

Many thanks

Some ISPs use dynamic IP addresses - each time you re-connect you'll be randomly assigned an IP address. Other ISPs use static IPs.

You can appear to come from a different IP address by using a proxy server. Effectively you connect to the proxy and ask it to connect to the website. The website sees the request as coming from the proxy server instead of you.

You can use something like Tor to connect via encrypted proxy servers (see http://www.torproject.org/).

PS I hadn't heard of IESnare, but it seems that it will create a hardware/software hash of your PC (i.e. a "fingerprint" that can be used to identify your PC even when it comes from a different IP address).

There's some info here about how to prevent IESnare from having access to your PC, and a suggestion that IESnare may be illegal under UK law:

If you are sitting behind a router then the remote site cannot "see" any IP address other than the public IP that was assigned to the router by the ISP when the connection was established. The website may store a cookie on the computer and retrieve it later. That could show that computer had visited the site or taken some offer already. Clearing cookies or simply using a different browser would avoid that.

If you need advice on how to get around something you'll need to be more specific about what the terms actually were. Stuff about "using a different computer" isn't really precise enough to be sure what to advise.
