Ok, dont get excited! I haven't achieved anything yet but i have started this thread to keep a record of what is happening.
BACKGROUND:
I have been an absolute idiot with my finances. I was a student between 2002 - 2005 and have been abroad since. During my student days i bounced cheques, abused my switch and visa cards and paid i dont know how much in charges. To cut a long story short, i had 2 accounts closed due to bad management, i also had another account closed because i applied for a job on the internet which turned out to be fraudulent (they deposited "x" amount in my account, i withdrew it, kept a percentage and wired the remaining cash to them via western union - they account was closed for fraud before i could even withdraw the 1st amount). I know i should have known better but you live and learn!
CURRENT:
Having returned to the UK, I went to the branches of RBS, NATWEST, HSBC & CO-OP but none had a record of me or my debts. Now that gave me a problem as I didnt have a record of the account numbers and wasnt sure at what address I would be registered under. Anyway, after a lot of hastle i managed to contact the correct dept at RBS and NATWEST (still struggling to find my details with the other two). A note here - go to "saynoto0870.com" - DO NOT PHONE THEIR 0845 NUMBERS - IT COSTS A SMALL FORTUNE!
Ok, so i thought I owed approx £2,500 to both RBS and NATWEST. However, having rang them it appears my RBS balance is £0 and on the NATWEST account i only owe £765 - and apparantly it has been written off!
I'm not sure how this works - but i am sure i have paid a fortune in charges - and i mean a fortune - NOBODY could have abused their account more than i did.
Anyway I simply asked the girl on the phone for a copy of all my statements dating back from the date the account was opened and she has agreed to put them in the post and i will recieve them within 28 days...
...I guess i now have to play the waiting game but i will keep this thread updated with any news.
