Hi all
We finally agreed a price on our new house!! :j:T
The accepted offer came in £4k above the valuation, ( in my opinion it was way of the mark - but the mortgage company thought otherwise and wouldnt budge). We just couldnt afford the difference. Luckily everyone in the chain was willing and able to reduce to accomodate it.
Still, its £16k under asking price, which when we first offered i never thought would be possible. And our mortgage is smaller so will be paid off 3yrs sooner!
The house is much cheaper than anything comparable on the market, and a cool £56k cheaper than "the one that got away" last summer. (gutted at the time, but over the moon that it got away now)
As you can probably tell, im very happy about the price, for a while it looked like the bank had well and truly thrown a spanner in, and wrecked my plans for our dream family home.
I cant wait to move!!
Thats where the scary bit comes in. We're only moving a couple of hundred yards up the road, and although we already have our own home this will be the first time we've moved.
We wont be able to employ a removal company or anything like that due to having no money left so we will be doing it all ourselves. Any money-saving hints or tips to keep costs down and help make it run smoothly would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to you all in advance!

Look on your local freecycle board for people giving away boxes for packing up your stuff in.0

There are loads of 'man with a van' type characters who are desperate for work at the moment - rope in a couple of friends and family to help with the heavy stuff - many hands make light work!0

Firstly, congratulations on your new home
I'm moving into rental accommodatoin and am really excited so can't imagine how excited you are
Have you got a towbar on your car (or a friend with one) then maybe borrow a trailer?0 -
When I moved, I found it useful to label the boxes up for which room they belonged in!..so that it avoided just plonking all boxes in the lounge or having to open them up to see what was in there! So, if you do find any helpers, they can easily know where to put each box! Saves abit of time anyway!....0

All the times we have moved, we have collected together as many friends and relatives we could (including one who had a van) and had moving parties (not in singing and dancing parties).
Everyone fills their cars, umpteem times usually and then at the end of the day, it is fish and chips and a couple of tinnies (or cups of tea for us non drinkers).
For boxes, we spoke to the local supermarkets and shops. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Thanks to all of you for the advice.
Just been looking around the house, i cant believe how much stuff we've accumulated in 2 years. Its going to be a nightmare sorting it all and moving! Good opportunity for a clear out.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Congratulations! Its a real exciting time innit?
As for tips; when I first moved, I got big boxes from supermarkets. In hindsight, this was a big mistake, as it needed two people to carry each one. Other times that I've moved, I got banana boxes. They are a good size, but easily managed by one person. Plus you can get a few into even a small car
Good luck.Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
Does this self-moving depend on how long you have to move? if you're in the middle of a chain, and all exchanging on same day, surely you are all moving on the same day, so have to completely clear your house am, to move into new place pm? Or am I being dim?0
