Car insurance, is it cheaper to make my wife the policy holder?

Title says it all really, my car insurance is up for renewal and was wondering if it would save me money to make my wife the main policy holder and me a named driver.

I only have one years no claims and neither of us have made a claim in the last 5 years and have both been driving for over 10 years.

What you are suggesting could be considered fronting and is fraud. This is basically using a cheaper person who is not the main driver but taking it out as if they are.

However, you can do what you said if you state that you are the main driver. In that case you would be making an honest statement. You will then probably find that the premium is increased to reflect the main driver.

If your wife has her own car, she cannot use her no claims bonus on your car.
