Barclaycard APR reduced

My credit rating isn't great so I thought I'd try reducing my APR rather than getting a balance transfer. I called barclaycard and the VERY unhelpful guy on the phone said there was nothing I could do except write to the complaints dept! I was annoyed so asked to speak to a supervisor. Someone eventually called me back and offered to lower the interest on my current balance from 22.9% to 6.9%!
I know it's not amazing but it will make a massive difference to the time taken to pay it off (I don't plan on making anymore purchases :j

I have spent the last number of years trying to clear all my cards with great difficulty until I found this site.
Just rang Barclaycard ( which i have just finally cleared ) asking to reduce my APR from 24.9%
Initially guy said no can do, but when I said I wanted to close the account he put me through to a girl who transferred me to their gold account with 19.9% ( not great but still better than before ) and offered me a 0% balance transfer for 15 months of up to £3100 with a fee of only 2.5%.
So I think all in all a good mornings work.0 -
I just did this on both my barclaycard platinum and cashback (inherited from morgan stanley) and on my BOS card.
Got the intrest reduced to 6.9% on the Platinum 12% on the cashback and 12% on the BOS I think.
to say thankyou both Barclaycard and BOS swiftly removed all my available credit!!
In a strange twist A&L just doubled my overdraft0 -

That is absolutely fabulous! As you can see from my sig I only ever get 3% knocked off in a go. That's massive! WELL DONE!Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!

It's not unusual to be offered promotional rates as a sweetener to attract new business.
It's not often that Barclaycard (or any lender) offers to extend the deal to existing transactions though.
Congratulations & thanks for sharing it with us.

It does seem that Barclaycard make offers when you attempt to close the account. Think I've seen this on a number of threads.
They offered me 4.9% + 3% fee on balance transfers (not sure for how long) when I cancelled my ex-Morgan Stanley card. I wasn't really looking for a deal - but they put me through to someone who asked I would be prepared to keep the card for emergencies (I said no) and then said what if they were to make me an offer. I said short of 0% APR for a long while, or fee-free BT plus 0% APR for any period I wouldn't be interested. She made the offer and then I cancelled. I got the impression they might have done a little better - but I didn't want to waste their time as I didn't really need the facility.0 -

Just shows if you behave like a big girls blouse and jump up and down and belittle the guy on the other end of the phone you can get your apr reduced.0 -
