Nearly as organised as me! I only remembered my childminder is on holiday for two weeks when she asked me if I could pick chloe up early so she could get to Gatwick

Pooky,
I used to child mind too...I do understand. Honest.
Maz-I didn't mean it like that-I have lately been missing having my family around, Scott and I have had 2 nights together alone in 7 years...Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
As an ex-childminder I can appreciate it from both sides, not everyone takes their kids out for 4 weeks hols, some don't take them out at all and others take them out at the drop of a hat and as you're self employed and cannot fill that space for the odd week you need to make sure it's financially viable for your business to survive...that's the whole idea of the contracts, for the childminder to set out his/her terms and for the parents to agree them.
It may seem like the childminder is "being paid for doing nothing" but if they have other kids then they're still working and still have business running costs to bear in mind....I don't know any other buisness that would take a loss for a week just because someone wanted a holiday.
It does seem unfair for "your" family but for their business it's just the way it needs to work.
Totally agree Pooky but as a matter of course everyone is entitled to 4 weeks holiday and its difficult to justify 'full' fee when you are not having the children at all..four weeks holiday should be built in to the fees for the rest of the year.
I am extremely lucky with my childminder - she doesn't charge at all when either I nor she is off......and for that reason I don't take the micheal...not everyone has been so kind.Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford
