Looking for a 22" LCD TV

I'm looking for a TV for a bedroom. 22" seems about right.
Looking at the ones in various shops the picture quality would ideally have at least an 800:1 contrast and 1680 x 1050 screen.
Also the sound needs to be reasonable at low volume (as in no hiss).
As a bonus low standby power consumption would be nice.
I can't find any decent comparison sites out there (unless you know of one?) so I'm looking for personal recommendations, please.
Budget about £250.
I've looked at;
Hitachi 22" £244 @ Argos
Alba 21.6" £190 @ Argos. I won't use the iPod dock but figure the speakers would need to be decent
Samsung T220HD £190 BIN on Ebay
and a 22" TV/DVD combo from Cello (£230 from Sainsbury)

Dont buy hitachi, alba or cello
Why are you after monitor dimensions for pixel size?
A standard tv (1366 x 768) will almost certainly look better:idea:0 -
Thanks. From the generic information I've read the greater the number of pixels the better the picture. This is supported by PC experience.
The screen size is purely arbitrary, based on what I think will look OK in the bedroom.
I do rather like the look of the Samsung, though.
Any other suggestions?0 -
I just bought this for my MiL, she seems quite happy with it and the reviews are very good: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158705Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

The difference between a pc monitor and a tv is the monitor only needs the one signal and can therefore add extra pixels and keep up quality
A tv has SO much more it needs to do so extra pixels means a drop in quality elsewhere
So are you sticking to the original pixel sizes regardless?:idea:0 -
No, I'm very much on a learning curve.
I went down to Curry's yesterday and looked at the TV's on display.
My hypothesis that "more pixels = better picture" appeared to be borne out. However, thinking back I was comparing Samsung with Matsui !!!!
The contrast appears to go to 1000:1 "naturally" and then they shove a back light on it to boost the difference.0 -

This one from dabs is a good TV worth a look at £185 a baragain IMO
Has some good reviews on site .0 -

I'd be much happier buying a brand new one ~

Samsung but a little cheaper ~

LG ~

Things to take into consideration ~
Contrast ratios are absolute BS so dont go off them (Unless the quoted ones are really low, in which case stay away)
Make sure you have enough connections
Do you need it to work with hidef material?
Does it need freeview?:idea:0 -

get a proper TV one not a pc monitor-that-can-display-tv as well
a good idea is to go into, say, comet, and find a model you like the look of in the tv section (not pc monitor). write down the model number then google it later for the best price.0 -
Out of the ones you've listed, I'd go for the T220HD.
I did a quick search at Comparetvprices.co.uk for 22" TV's; you also might want to consider the LG 22LG3000 @ £225.
The 22" Samung LE22A656A is supposed to be good as well, although it's a tad over budget @ £275.0
