Laptop Dead After 13 Months - Reasonable

Got an HP G6065 Notebook.

Laptop has completely died after 13 months - turns on then straight off again. Screen doesnt work at all.

The laptop only has a 12 month warranty so not able to send it back to HP for repair however think that as its only 13 months old worth a letter to the retailer re SOGA claim.

Thoughts?

Tried it with the battery out, just on mains power? Perhaps there's something wrong with the battery.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
  • Yes been tried with the battery and AC adaptor.

Been through all the options on the HP Website. Next step appears to be opening it up and replacing parts which I do not want to do as it will make any argument re SOGA or repair less reasonable.

Looking online the suggestion is that the motherboard, ram or CPU need replaced.

I am going to send a letter to the retailer to see their response. Just wanted to check I wasnt being unreasonable expecting it to last longer. It cost 399.99 originally.

one of the main causes of sudden shutdown is thermal. Either a piece of hardware has failed on the motherboard or the vents are blocked and the fans are inffective. If the vents are blocked and a part has failed due to this, then the company could come back and say that heat as the problem and was nt their fault.
Blow out all the vents before trying to return to avoid this excuse,
Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!
  • The vents etc are all clear although it has been overheating.

Apparently overheating is quite common with HP's so I think that it has overheated and killed the motherboard or another piece of the laptop.

I've sent off an e-mail to the retailer and will wait and see what they say. not really got anything to lose.
