Pension AVCs

Options
Has anyone had any experience of AVCs (Advance Voluntary Contributions I believe!)

What actually are they (I have a rough idea) and are they worth it?

Not an expert on AVC's by any means... but one bit of info I had was that if you are on the old 75 pension scheme, you have fixed Death In Service benefits based on rank, however with AVC's you can get the higher rates payable on the 05 pension scheme.

Not probably worth it for a private or SAC but from Sgt up may be worth a look...

I'm interested in AVC's .... where's the best place to go for advice? Would this top up my pension or just increase the death in service benefit, I would like to do both if possible.

    Thanks

If you're Army, then your admin office is the best bet - ideally the FSA, Chief or RAO, as it's unlikely your clerks will have access to the information.

To be honest among the units I am familiar with, very little knowledge of it so be prepared to be fobbed off - but persevere!

Not too sure, but check on the various service sites i.e. ARRSE.co.uk (Army), E-goat.co.uk (RAF) - should be some bits on there for you to peruse
