Problems Installing Openoffice

Is anyone able to help please?
I'm trying to install OpenOffice on my Mum's computer. The first stage seems to download ok but when I get to the installation part (I think the bit where I need to unpack it) I get a message come up saying:

"The destination folders specified does not contain a Openoffice.org 2.0 version. To select a different folder click Browse"

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

    Hi ehlittleone,

Try doing a search on Google for your specific error message. From the message it sounds like the download/extraction process may have been corrupted and you may need to do it again.

    Sorry I can't help further ;)

An alternative way is to go with Portable Open Office, which does not require installation (but just unzipping in any folder).

It is perfect for UWB keys, or PCs with no admin access. And is biult from the real open office, so no differences there.

  • Thanks both for your advice.

I will give the portable option a go later today. Fingers crossed this works.

When you say "a PC with no admin access" is that what could have caused the open office installation not to work because I do remember seeing somewhere on her computer that it said something like she needed to change to being the administrator (if that makes sense not very good with techie terms). Lets hope it doesn't matter anyway.

You usually need Administrator access to install programs. This is built into XP and some previous versions of windows. In XP the other type is Limited, whereby you can't install very many programs, and there are other restrictions.

If your Mum isn't an administrator user on her computer then you will need to logon as an administrator user and try again.
