I thought it was an unhelpful post too

    Why?

Roughly translated, it means don't try to time the markets, no one can pick the bottom or the top, but following the trend is easy.

'The Trend is your Friend' is an adage followed by all successful traders.

But of course some people think they are 'smarter' than the market.

They are the one's who always lose, and are always on site's like this asking for advice.

Come on then smarty pants, is the market going up right now and hence safe to buy now or is it not?

I have kept it simple, one point for you to reply to only so that you cannot ignore it.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the question.

Is it safe to buy now ?

Where does 'Safe' come into it ?

The Stock markets have been in an uptrend for some time now. Once that uptrend was established it was probably a sensible time to buy. If and when that trend is reversed, it will probably be a good time to sell.

I cannot see why you need to get yourself so aerated and agitated over this issue.

In my opinion, following the trend in any market is the easiest and simplist way to trade it.

The OP question relates to trading which is why I gave my opinion.

Non of it has anything to do with Investing in the markets, which is a totally different thing.

Which is hilarious coming from you. The only reason you joined this thread was to take a post from myself totally out of context (Buy Low, Sell High.............where did I say that) and attempt to belittle my opinion. If you have nothing to add to help the OP...........

Yes that post was ludicrous and totally off topic and deserved to be singled out. Out of context? It has no context.

And its not an opinion you have stated but crystal balls and hindsight. So it was a good time to buy a few weeks back was it? Well thanks for that wise advice. I notice you still have not said whether, in your wise opinion, now is a good time to invest? Is this a proper upwards trend now? Today, not last month.

I'm certainly not agitated by you. It's just my crap detector goes off every now and then and I can't help myself. I'm sure its the second time its gone off for you by the way and on both occasions I did not lower myself as to calling people brainless and fools.

Coming on to a thread like this and posting "buy when shares are going up and sell when they are going down" is completely ridiculous. :rotfl: That's so blinking obvious you may as well post "buy low and sell high" Maybe you should take some of your own advice, if you have nothing sensible to add don't post.

There is a phrase that people should sell on the way up and buy on the way down

The OP question was the equivalent of how long is a piece of string so purchs response was perfectly reasonable tbh

Is it safe to buy, no its never safe to buy shares but even in a downtrend you can buy and hold and make money. I bought in 2001 and made money - eventually.

I wish I had just setup a regular investment instead and realised timing was too hard to call

If you think about it logically, to ask that question and expect broad agreement, let's say buying in the morning and selling in the afternoon, would mean that everybody knew this and they were all buying in the morning and selling in the afternoon, and therefore it most likely wouldn't be the best time, of course maybe you were hoping for unanimous agreement so you could use it as a contrarian signal and do the opposite ;)
Bespoke Investment Group conduct studies like that, and churn out all sorts of useless market trivia (though for the US markets) obviously as soon as the information is in the wild it is useless, and you could argue it becomes mis-information.

People take or rely on advice too much.

Never believe anyone who says they've seen or called the bottom of the market. Only you, as an investor, can decide that.

People only know the bottom years after, the experts will tell you as much. Its even harder when you consider currency devaluation and inflation
