Calling all postmen/women-stolen parcels

Does anyone know if anything constructive is likely to be done by the post office, when you report having 5 parcels not turn up in 5 months. My son has this problem and its likely that someone at a sorting office is taking parcels addressed to his student accommodation. Can the royal mail investigate this easily,ie set a trap? Are they likely to do anything.Complaint went in 2 weeks ago.Nothing heard yet.Thanks.I have thought about hiding meself in a large box and posting meself!

    Hello hollydays!

I am also a university student and sometimes i dont get my post either as some universitys have a policy that certain companies do not deliver to University Campus's. If these parcels that hes not receiving are personal (i.e, from friends and family) then thats a different matter. I really dont know what the post office would do but overall it is a shame how university students are targeting at having there post missing! Good luck in your investigation.

P.S. I like the idea of posting yourself! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We've had several parcels go missing in recent months but all the junk mail and bills get through so it sees likely to be theft. Unbelievably when I tried to take this up with my local sorting office I was told there was nobody around in authority after 1200 (noon). So I guess light-fingered types have a pretty free run until the "Delivery Manager" returns in the ealry hours.

When my daughter's birthday present went missing after being received at the sorting office I finally complained to head office. They sent £15 compensation, but frankly given all the wasted time it wasn't really worth the effort. Since then a book I ordered as a Christmas present and my son's birthday present from his grand parents have also disappeared in the post. This is clearly now an endemic problem that Royal Mail is not dealing with ( maybe thay want us all to pay to record every item so it can be traced). It is an absolute disgrace.

It may well be worth contacting a local paper or radio station to make your local office jump (...but the item may have been stolen elsewhere). I would always follow up and claim for any item missing...the b....s shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. You may need the sender to do so.

I've been told that Royal Mail now uses many temp agency staff who may not have been properly checked out. Whatever the reason Royal Mail knows there is a systemic problem and they are simply not tackling it...the sooner they disappear down their own financial black hole the better!!!
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

I don't know if you're aware, but apparently there's a £30 standard compensation for ANY parcel, & adding extra insurance is quite reasonable at just £0.75-3.00 for £100-500 compensation - see the RM website regarding this. Always get a Certificate of Posting(?) if not insuring, while extra insurance should get you a 'proper' receipt(?) - confirm these with the PO (hence the ?s).

For smaller packages, Recorded Signed For (FAQs) & Special Delivery (FAQs) can be used.

I realise one shouldn't have to resort to insuring everything (it's disgraceful, to be honest :(), but I suppose in your case(s) it's a must, & for that extra peace of mind it's a small price to pay. Good luck, I hope it all works out well from henceforth :) G

    Hollydays,
The Post Office has in an investigation department called POID, it's there own, for want pf a better word , Own Police. They can investigate post related crimes and should possibly if the problem is bad enough set up a test purchase, IE make sure that certain letters go to a specific postperson, and see if they reach their destination.
Unfortunately like certain occupations, being a Postperson used to be seen as a job with credibility, nowadays all and sundry seem to be able to get in. Hope you have some success with your complaint.

    Hi
You can report it online and see if you get a response.

What I would do, is tell your son to report to the delivery office and speak to the manager there. Explain exactly when his parcels started to go missing, how many etc, try and be as specific as possible, and he must insist that he is making an official complaint and that he wants it investigating, get the managers name etc.

And I hope he gets a result, because this does nothing for the reputation of Royal Mail and the majority of postmen/women in this country, who do an excellent job and wouldn't think of stealing a stamp let alone a letter/parcel.

    Hope this helps

Hear hear. I was getting cross reading through this thread as there clearly is a problem with the post in this country and by not dealing with complaints and checking it out, all posties get tarred with the same brush.

I went on a school trip to the local main sorting office. You would think that with an audience everything would be done properly and they would be eager to show how well cared for people's letters and packets are wouldn't you. But no. The abuse and contempt that things were treated with actually led me to make a complaint afterwards. One sorter had one of those long cardboard posting tubes and was using it as a bat to move items from the conveyor to another receptacle! Other mail was just dropped onto the floor and left there to be trodden on by however many people until some other poor sap went around and picked up what others had dropped.

And imho recorded post isn't worth the paper it is printed on either - you can only track post once it has been signed for...if it isn't signed for it can't be tracked. We have lost 4 parcels since October and even with sending them Signed For they didn't arrive and they still couldn't find them. It is soo frustrating.

Did you claim compensation? A few years ago they lost something of mine, that I'd sent recorded, worth around £25. I claimed & received the full amount about 4-6 weeks later :). G

If the Post Office won't taking you complaint seriously go to you local paper and your's and your son's MP. Then tell the Post Office what you have done, that should make them sit up and take notice. If it's theft they should be doing something about it.
