Moving from Prepay Elec meter?
Hi I am looking for some advice,
I am currently with Scottish power and wanted to move from a PrePay meter to a monthly DD meter but they wanted £44 install charge and £150 Deposit Charge (Refundable after 12 months) that is £194 initial outlay does anyone else not find this a bit off?
When querying why the hefty initial charges the customer service rep said this was to stop people moving supplier.
I asked him how much it would cost to move from a DD meter to a PrePay meter and guess what... Yip... £0.... nothin... wont cost ya a penny.
Expecting our first and wanted the assurance that I will always have electricity, I know that it is only costing £44 in the long run but £194 initial cost is a bit much for me. There seamed to be no space for negotiation i.e. signing a 12 month contract or paying the deposit over a few months.
Is anyone having any luck elsewhere?

How does paying a refundable security deposit stop you moving supplier?
If you go on a credit meter, you are by definition being extended credit. There is no obligation for a supplier to extend credit to you and if they do they can impose their own terms ... in this case a refundable security deposit in the sum of £150 usually refundable after 12 months (assuming you pay the bills on time & in full, or pay the DD in full every month and on time)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
